February is National Girls and Women in Sports Month.  ¾«¶«´«Ã½ has a strong tradition of success among its women’s sports teams.  Mercer offers softball, women’s basketball, women’s soccer and women’s tennis.  ¾«¶«´«Ã½ teams compete in Region 19 with a chance to advance to NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Championships.

 

Women’s tennis has won four National Championships, has 155 program wins and has had 44 All-Americans.  Softball is getting close to 1,000 total wins with 936 and has 13 All-Americans in its history.  Women’s basketball has 588 total wins and six All-Americans and women’s soccer is getting close to 500 total wins, with 475 and has had 22 All-Americans.

 

In its history, ¾«¶«´«Ã½ women’s sports have 2,154 wins and have had 85 All-Americans.  All four of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ women’s sports teams have reached the NJCAA National Tournament and won multiple Region titles. 

 

Women’s soccer reached the Region 19 Championship this fall under first year Head Coach Ron Stinson and in 2022, the team had the first undefeated regular season (15-0) in program history.  Women’s tennis finished 25^th at the Division I NJCAA National Championship in 2023 and is looking to qualify and improve on last year’s finish this spring.  Softball finished 40-10 last spring, one win short of tying the most wins in program history.  And following a two year hiatus, ¾«¶«´«Ã½ women’s basketball will return for the 2024-2025 season under Head Coach Rob Fusik, who had a great deal of success coaching girls high basketball at Trenton Catholic Academy and Rutgers Prep.

 

In 2022-2023, ¾«¶«´«Ã½ women’s sports went 57-16 with a .780 winning percentage.  Vikings women’s teams had two Region Players of the Year, nine All-Region performers, four All-Conference performers and one NJCAA All-American.

 

Our athletic teams get to play and practice at some of the best facilities.  Softball will play this spring on a newly completed turf field.  Women’s soccer will play on a newly resurfaced turf field.  Women’s tennis plays at the indoor and outdoor courts at Mercer County Park.  Women’s basketball plays on Howie Landa court in the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ gym.

 

Mercer women athletes also had a great deal of success off the courts and field.  Six female athletes were named NJCAA Academic All-Americans in May 2023.  Fourteen female athletes earned All-Region Academic honors for the fall 2023 semester for having a GPA of 3.2 and higher and an additional four women’s athletes earned All-Conference Academic honors for having a GPA of 3.0 and higher.  Two women’s athletes (softball player Isabella Bonacci and women’s soccer player Fiona Madigan) earned President’s List honors for having a 4.0 for the fall semester.

 

¾«¶«´«Ã½ women’s sports have been a successful part of Vikings athletics and one that will continue to grow and thrive.  We are proud of our female athletes and look forward to their continued success on and off the court and field!
