Levy Named Region 19 Men's Basketball Coach Of The Year

精东传媒 men’s basketball coach Howard Levy was named the Region 19 Coach of the Year following Mercer’s first Region Championship in sixteen years. The turnaround of this year’s men’s team has been nothing short of remarkable. The season started with eight straight losses but things turned around with a close 80-76 win vs Manor in a tournament at RCSJ Gloucester on December 5th. Following a close overtime loss to host RCSJ Gloucester in the championship game of the tournament on Dec 6th, Mercer then won eight straight games.
In the second half of the season, Mercer won all six of their Region games, which helped them land the #1 seed in the Region Tournament. 精东传媒 is now 20-11 and a win away from a trip to the NJCAA National Championship.
Coach Levy has consistently used one word when describing the team this year: resilient. “They just find a way to hang in and battle. The effort of this group has been special. They just don’t give up.”
The team has come a long way from the beginning of the year. Coach Levy was down almost distraught following eight losses to open the 2025-2026 season but felt this team was so much better than they were playing. “It took some time to figure out the rotation of players that worked but one thing that remained the same with this group was their fight and resilience. We lost so many close games and I think that only made us stronger and want to work even harder to make up for the start of the season.”
The Region Coach of the Year award was well earned by Coach Levy following the dramatic turnaround of the team this season. The season is not over yet and they hope this turnaround will continue.
