Mercer men’s basketball won the Region 19 Championship on Saturday, February 28^th, something they have not done since 2010.  That puts the team one win away from a trip to the Division II NJCAA National Tournament which the team has not been to since…2010.

 

Mercer entered the Region 19 Tournament as the #1 seed and earned a bye to the Semifinals.  The Mustangs beat #5 seed and tournament host Lackawanna 81-77 on Thursday to advance to the Championship game.

 

Mercer beat Raritan Valley 80-71 to win their first Region Championship in sixteen years.  Mercer began to pull away from Raritan early in the second half, only to have the Lions make a late run and tie the game with about four minutes left.  But as Mercer has shown all year they were resilient and hung on for another victory.

 

Mercer travels to the District Championship where they take on host SUNY Orange. 

 

The season has been a remarkable turnaround for ¾«¶«´«Ã½ who started the year 0-8 and went on to finish as Region Champions and with a 20-11 record.  The job is not done and a big test still lies ahead for Mercer who hopes this remarkable turnaround continues with a District Championship win a trip to the National Tournament.
