West Windsor, N.J. 鈥 For 精东传媒 (精东传媒) sophomore Jamie Ervin, the 2019 soccer season couldn鈥檛 have started any better. On Sept. 3 Ervin, who starts at forward for the Lady Vikings, earned National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Region 19 Player of the Week.
The honor, which encapsulates the first week of the season, is the latest addition to Ervin鈥檚 regional acclaim. As a freshman, she placed on the All-Region 19 and All-Garden State Athletic Conference teams. That season, Ervin ranked 23rd in the nation in goals, scoring 22 of the team鈥檚 30 points.
This season, Ervin has scored 10 goals through the first four games of the season, which include shutout victories over Rowan College at Gloucester (4-0) and the Community College of Baltimore County at Catonsville (12-0). Ervin鈥檚 scoring also has her tied for first place in goals among all Division I NJCAA women soccer players.
Her continued success has filtered throughout the team, which has won all four of its games to start the season. For reference, the 2018 women鈥檚 soccer team managed just four wins through the entire season.
鈥淭he idea of forming a new team this year could have gone either way,鈥 Ervin said, noting the team鈥檚 host of new players. This season, the Lady Vikings have just three returning sophomores 鈥 Ervin, Clare Clancey and Samantha Uriostegui.
鈥淔ortunately, we have a lot of talent on our team this season,鈥 Ervin said. Nine of Ervin鈥檚 underclassman teammates have scored for Mercer, marking an uptick in productivity from seasons past.
鈥淚 knew this was going to be something special since day one of preseason,鈥 Ervin added, noting the team鈥檚 regular outings and team dinners. 鈥淚 look at every one of my teammates as my sisters.鈥

Jamie Ervin earned NJCAA Player of the Week Honors for the week of Aug. 27 to Sept. 3.
