¾«¶«´«Ã½ to Host Annual Golf Classic for Scholarships on Oct. 4

West Windsor, N.J. - ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (¾«¶«´«Ã½) invites friends and supporters of the college’s student-athletes to hit the links on Monday, Oct. 4 for the 30th Annual ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Golf Classic for Scholarships, co-hosted by the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Foundation and Athletics Department in partnership with Haldeman Auto Group.

The tournament, which will be held at Trenton Country Club (TCC) in West Trenton, NJ, will follow all local, state and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and mandates regarding COVID-19.*

“We are excited to celebrate 30 years of community support for Mercer athletics,” said ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Foundation Executive Director Joseph Claffey, adding that the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Vikings have had a long history of success in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region 19 and national tournaments. A number of professional athletes have begun professional athletic careers at ¾«¶«´«Ã½ with the help of a Foundation scholarship.

This year’s committee is co-chaired by long-time ¾«¶«´«Ã½ supporters Dave Fraytak, Brian Bennett and Allen Silk. The tournament is held in memory of Dr. Cynthia Schaffer, a former ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Foundation board member and area physician. Dr. Schaffer strongly supported ¾«¶«´«Ã½’s mission and was an ardent sports enthusiast.

The tournament will follow the schedule established in 2020. Golfers are invited to breakfast beginning at 9:00 a.m., with the shotgun start to follow at 10:00 a.m. The tournament will conclude with lunch at 2:30 p.m. 

¾«¶«´«Ã½ Athletics Director John Simone emphasizes the importance of athletics in the lives of successful students. “Our athletes learn important life skills including teamwork and time management. They consistently perform well in the classroom,” he said. “This tournament with our friends in the community lets our athletes know that we believe in them and are investing in their futures.”

*Our tournament schedule may be adjusted to comply with health and social distancing guidelines. Should we not be able to hold our event due to state and local guidelines during the pandemic, 100 percent of sponsorships and ticket sales will go directly to scholarships for ¾«¶«´«Ã½ student-athletes.
