A Brief History

Established in 1966, ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (¾«¶«´«Ã½) is a publicly supported comprehensive educational institution that provides opportunities for higher education through an open-door admission policy.

The scenic 292-acre West Windsor Campus was opened in 1972 to serve the needs of Mercer County residents. The James Kerney Campus, located in downtown Trenton, serves as an educational and cultural hub for city residents.


The Economic Value of ¾«¶«´«Ã½

This report assesses the impact of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ on the Mercer County economy and the benefits generated by the college for students, taxpayers, and society as a whole in the state of New Jersey. The results of this study show that ¾«¶«´«Ã½ creates a positive net impact on the county economy and generates a positive return on investment for the main stakeholders.

Mercer Students at a Glance

¾«¶«´«Ã½ enjoys a diverse student body that brings a variety of background and experiences to campus. A brief introduction to Mercer students:

  • Approximately 9,000 students enroll in one or more credit courses each year.
  • Mercer County residents comprise three-fourths of the student population.
  • International students (non-immigrant), contributing to a diverse student population, represent more than 40 countries.
  • Enrollment includes 70% part-time students, 30% full-time; 44% men and 56% women.
  • The average age of a full-time student is 22; part-time 26.
  • Average student/faculty ratio: 16 to 1.
  • More than 50% of Mercer's graduates transfer to senior colleges or universities.

Saturday:  7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday:  closed; classrooms open as needed

(Additional campus hours may accommodate Kelsey Theatre, Conference Center, and Athletics facilities events and activities, and special events.)

James Kerney Campus
Monday through Friday:  7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Saturday:  7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Accreditation

¾«¶«´«Ã½ is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (267-284-5000). The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

The State of New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education has authorized the college to award the associate degree. Many of the college's academic programs are also accredited by national professional associations and their boards of certification.

Aviation Flight Technology is accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International.

The Funeral Service A.A.S. degree and Certificate are accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE), 992 Mantua Pike, Suite 108, Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097; 816-233-3747 .

The associate degree Nursing program at ¾«¶«´«Ã½ at the West Windsor campus located in West Windsor, New Jersey is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3390 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30326; 404-975-5000.

The most recent accreditation decision made by the ACEN Board of Commissioners for the associate degree Nursing program is continuing accreditation.
